Before undergoing lip lightening treatment, certain precautions must be followed to prepare the lips for optimal results. Patients are advised to avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least a week prior to the procedure, as this can increase the risk of irritation. Any exfoliating agents, harsh lip scrubs, or chemical peels should also be discontinued several days in advance. Those with a history of cold sores may be given antiviral medication as a preventive measure. It’s important to inform the dermatologist about any medications being taken or previous lip treatments. Hydrating the lips in the days leading up to the procedure helps in minimizing sensitivity during the session. Alcohol, smoking, and spicy foods should be avoided for at least 24–48 hours prior. The area should be clean and free of makeup or lip products on the day of the treatment.
